Sewing is one of the oldest of the textile arts and is used in a variety of crafts and industries today. During this sewing studio little artists got a chance to design and sew their very own felt monsters by hand using a basic sewing stitch or if that was just too easy a few little artists learned how to use a blanket stitch.
Little artists learned how to cut patterns out of felt, how to thread a needle, and how to safely stitch on buttons and other details. With the help of our teachers, little artists sewed the outside seam around their monsters on a sewing machine before stuffing their plush creations.
Our little artists' monster designs were inspired by the Caldacott award-winner, Ed Emberley, who is the author and artist of a series of dramatic die-cut monster books such as, “Go Away Big Green Monster” and "Glad Monster Sad Monster" where he uses BRIGHT and BOLD COLORS and SHAPES.
