In this sculpture studio, Little Artists learn the basics of working with clay; rolling, pinching, and make slabs. Little artists also learned how to score and use slip when attaching small pieces to their figures.
Elementary age children work with confidence and come to the clay table with an idea of what it is they want to make. For them, their challenge is to find the right processes and strategies to fulfill their ideas. We discussed the importance of form and how sculptures are viewed from all sides, while keeping in mind balance and structure.
The last step our Little Artists took was adding the important art element of texture, and painting on their details.
