Clay Castles

In this mixed media studio, Little Artists created an 8×12 mosaic clay castle.  The first step and most important part was for the Little Artists to rollout a slab of clay to a ¼ inch thickness large enough to form their castles features such as towers, turrets and drawbridges.

Artists experimented with texture tools and relief features from some of their favorite buildings.  Glass tiles, beads, and mirrors were added as a mosaic feature.

Once the clay was dry, Little Artists painted them with metallic silver and gold, pink, green and blue hues.

After a glaze coat, Little Artists attached Sculpey features that they had made such as flags, animals and castle banners.  Each castle was finished with a silk ribbon so that the castles could be hung.
