Mexican Fiesta Bowls

Inspired by the brightly colored pottery of Mexico, Little Artists hand-build 3 paper-mache nesting bowls in this mixed media studio.

For thousands of years, the art of forming and decorating hand-built vessels has played an important role in Mexican culture, and many of the techniques employed by ceramicists today were developed by these ancient artisans.

Using a pulp variety of paper mache the children built their bowls into a mold from an existing bowl.  After the paper mache bowls dried a coat of primer was added.

The bowls were painted with traditional Mexican patterns and symbols or decorated with a design chosen by the artists.
