In this Painting and Drawing Studio, Little Artists took a look at Edvard Munch's painting The Scream to talk about expressionism. How do you express your feelings in painting? How did Edvard express his feelings in his painting the Scream?
Little Artists took a moment to think about how to show different feelings through their own facial expressions. Are everyones the same? Do your eyes change size or do your eyebrows move? After looking at a mirror and exploring the their facial movements Little Artists had their photos taken showing two different expressive emotions they would like to draw and and carve into a print.
For the prints, each artists carved their expressive portraits onto thin pieces of foam with pencils aligning their facial features proportionally. Choosing ink colors that they felt supported their expression they rolled the ink on with a brayer and carefully pressed it onto there paper.
Each work was titled and framed ready to take home. But of course we took time at the end of class to talk about the processes and what we liked about each others work.
See You at the Next Studio!
