This past 2015 winter semester in our Mixed Media classes we did the following!
Little Artists will learned how to make a clay slab trinket box. Artist designed the plan, made measurements and rolled out the clay into their box design. Once the boxes were assembled and dried, artists painted and clear glaze their boxes.
Little Artists will learn about the artist Alexander Calder's wire sculptures and create an animal wire portrait of their own. Animal portraits will be bent and formed from an artist's animal rendering of choice and mounted onto a painted canvas to show shadows.
This was an amazing sculpture class using wire, pantyhose and paint! We talked about the importance of form, color, design and positive and negative space when creating these Dali style sculptures. The sculptures we made on wooden bases and varnished to protect the painted designs.
Little Artists created a 12x12 clay slab relief portrait of themselves by forming and shaping clay into coiled hair, 3-D nose, ears, eyebrows, and eyelashes. When dry it was painted and the eyes of each artist clay slab was woven using embroidery thread, to create the colorful iris and pupil
