Little Artists learned about the famous children's book illustrator Beatrix Potter, who wrote many children's books featuring realistic animals in clothes such as The Tales of Peter Rabbit, and The Tales of Johnny Town-Mouse. We looked at her illustrations and compared them to current authors who also draw animal illustrations to find similarities and differences in clothing styles between the two generations. Teachers showed Little Artists how to draw a simple line drawing of their favorite animal wearing clothes; a hat, suspenders, tuxedo or maybe flip flops. Drawings was then refined, adding textures, patterns and testing different ideas until a final work was chosen and painted with watercolor just as illustrators would do choosing their best work for books. Work will be framed in glass 14 x 18.
